Procurement supported by uncontested Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN)
Waterloo, ON – Nov 06, 2025 – X-ray manufacturer KA Imaging has announced the installation of its Reveal™ Mobi Pro mobile X-ray system at Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN). The system will be deployed at the WRHN @ Queen’s Blvd. site, formerly St. Mary’s General Hospital, to support bedside imaging, particularly in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The Reveal™ Mobi Pro integrates KA Imaging’s Reveal 35C detector, which enables single-exposure, dual-energy imaging on a mobile platform – KA’s patented SpectralDR technology. This advanced imaging capability helps clinicians visualize pneumonia, pneumothorax, pulmonary edema, line and tube placements, and subtle lesions like cavitations more clearly, all without disrupting existing workflows.
“Imaging ICU patients is particularly challenging due to their critical condition and limited mobility,” said Amol Karnick, President and CEO of KA Imaging. “Reveal™ Mobi Pro brings high-quality, dual-energy imaging directly to the bedside, helping improve diagnostic confidence when it matters most.”
The procurement was supported by an Advance Contract Award Notice (ACAN), a public notification process used by Canadian institutions when only one supplier is believed to meet the specific requirements. The ACAN closed without challenge, confirming KA Imaging as the sole qualified supplier.
“Every innovation we pursue at WRHN begins with a clear purpose — to enable better decisions, faster, for our patients and care teams,” said Danina Kapetanovic, Vice President, Innovation & Chief Health Innovation Officer. “The Reveal™ Mobi Pro is a powerful example of how we translate innovation into practice — aligning cutting-edge technology with real clinical needs. It reflects our broader commitment to building a health system that learns, adapts, and continuously improves the care experience for our community.”
“Integrating the Reveal™ Mobi Pro into our WRHN @Queen’s Blvd. site is a significant step forward for patient care, especially for our most critical patients in the ICU. The ability to perform advanced, dual-energy X-rays right at the bedside provides our clinicians with unprecedented diagnostic clarity—allowing us to more quickly and confidently assess conditions like pneumonia or line placements. This directly translates to faster, more informed treatment decisions.” said Mike Sharma, Interim Director, Medical Imaging, WRHN.
In clinical studies, the Reveal 35C detector has been associated with:
- Increased diagnostic confidence for pneumonia, pneumothorax, and pulmonary edema in ICU settings
- Improved visibility of lines, tubes, and hidden lesions
- Up to 37% reduction in follow-up CT imaging in critical care scenarios
Waterloo Regional Health Network is an 877-bed comprehensive community hospital serving the Region of Waterloo and surrounding areas. It is the largest health services provider in Waterloo Wellington.
